We've got 15 Conway's Game of Life Kits coming in along with all the right angle connectors we need to hook them all up together. Once they're all put together we'll hook them up and get some good pictures and video of them. Ideally, it would be cool if people marked them with their names and left them for a couple of weeks so we can install the whole thing in the gallery window on the street. Shoot me an email if you want to get in on the fun. It was a big success last year with a whole bunch of folks presenting and attending. It's coming up on Sunday, Feb 8th and there's a Software/Security track that needs some filling out. If you're not going to ShmooCon that weekend, this looks like a great thing to do instead. Put together a talk and spread the word about better security to a bunch of n00bs. There are worse things you could do with your Sunday. /ducksauz -------- Original Message -------- Subject: howdy - inquiring about possible DC401 presence at NewBCamp Date: Tue, 13 Jan 2009 09:11:00 -0500 From: Sara Streeter To: ducksauz at dc401.org Hello there, I'm Sara Streeter, I'm a Providence Geeks regular attendee and I also happen to organize NewBCamp, which is an unconference in BarCamp style but for newbies. It's coming up on February 8, a Sunday, at the Pepsi Forum at Johnson & Wales http://www.newbcamp.com I have a Software / Security track in NewBCamp which might interest some in DC401. Right now in the Hardware / Assembling track we have Free Geek, a nonprofit that refurbishes donated computers and gives/resells at minimum cost to the needy, in Graphic Design we have the AIGA, and Social Media / Web Development the Providence Geeks. DC401 would be a great group to give presentations regarding keeping secure online, and what software is and isn't secure. So basically I'm asking you if you first of all would promote NewBCamp to your group, and secondly recruit anyone who's interested in helping educate the newbies register for NewBCamp and sign up to give a presentation. Thoughts? Thanks for your time - hopefully this sounds like something you'd be interested in.
