One of the main objectives of DC401 is to gather support for and open a Hacker Space in Providence. We have come to a provisional agreement with AS220 to occupy approximately 1000-1100 square feet in the second floor of the Mercantile Block building, which is due to come on line in early 2010.

The hacker space will be a gathering place for hackers and artists to get together, share ideas and collaborate on projects. We will have a workshop with tools for everyone to share and use. We'll have a meeting space available for groups to use.

There are a bunch of things that need to get done in preparation for bringing up the space.

  • Determine layout for the space
  • Establishing a non-profit organization for the hacker space

    • IRS Federal ID [2]
    • IRS Non Profit Status [3]
  • Bank Account for the organization
  • Collecting funds for setup and build out of the space
  • Determining what we want for resources (soldering irons, PCB etching, etc)
